MI

Type: Pharyngeal motor neuron, interneuron
In MoW:
Male Wiring Project: MI
In Wormbase: MI
Lineage: AB araappaaa
Location: Pharynx anterior bulb
Description: MI is a unipolar neuron which is located in the dorsal nerve cord, anterior to the pharyngeal nerve ring. Its process makes a

complete turn around the ring in a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion ending in dorsal cord. This neuron makes variable synapses that often have both nerve and muscle as the post synaptic cells (see connectivity diagram below) (Albertson and Thomson, 1976)
Neurotransmitter/ Neuropeptide:
- Glutamate
(Pereira et al., 2015)
Innexin expression:
None, yet reported, although described to have gap junctions in adult animals (Albertson and Thomson, 1976)
Receptor expression:
Function: Unknown or redundant (Avery and Thomas, 1997)

Dorsal view. Bottom is left side of the embryo. Spheres indicate individual nuclei. Black sphere: ancestors of MI; dark grey spheres: apoptotic cells; other cells follow the WA color code (after they acquire specific cell or tissue identities). 0 min is fertilization.
