I2L, I2R

Type: Pharyngeal interneuron (also anterior sensory?)
In MoW:
Male Wiring Project: I2L, I2R
In Wormbase: I2, I2L, I2R
Lineage: AB alpappaapa, AB arapapaapa
Location: Pharynx anterior bulb
Description: Pharyngeal interneurons. At the most anterior end of the subventral nerve cords, I2s have proprioceptive-like free subcuticular endings slightly anterior to those of I1s. They are also coupled by gap junctions to M1 neurons and

attach to pm1 muscle at the anterior end. Their posterior processes terminate anterior to the cell bodies of M3 neurons (Albertson and Thomson, 1976)
Neurotransmitter/Neuropeptide:
- Glutamate
- NLP-3; neuropeptide-like protein
- NLP-8; neuropeptide-like protein
(Pereira et al., 2015; Nathoo et al., 2001)
Innexin expression:
None yet reported, although described to have gap junctions in adult animals (Albertson and Thomson, 1976)
Receptor expression:
- GLR-7; glutamate receptor subunit
- GLR-8; glutamate receptor subunit
(Brockie et al., 2001)
Function:
- Unknown or redundant (Avery and Thomas, 1997)

I2L (AB alpappaapa) development in the embryo.
Dorsal view. Bottom is left side of the embryo. Spheres indicate individual nuclei. Black sphere: ancestors of I2L (since last I2L ancestor has not yet gone through its final division, the black sphere seen at the end of this movie is still AB alpappaap); dark grey spheres: apoptotic cells; other cells follow the WA color code (after they acquire specific cell or tissue identities). 0 min is fertilization.
