DESCRIPTION

An excitatory GABAergic motor neuron/interneuron located in dorso-rectal ganglion. Innervates enteric muscles. Born postembryonically from K rectal epithelial cell; at late L1 stage K rectal epithelial side (on the left side of rectum) divides to generate DVB (K.p) and K.a which acts as the new rectal epithelial cell.

Functions: Defecation. AVL and DVB are excitatory GABAergic motor neurons for the enteric muscles (Avery L. and Thomas J.H. 1997; McIntire S.L. et al 1993). Together with AVL, activates expulsion muscle contraction (E.p or EMC).
